While making the rounds for The Three Stooges earlier this year, slapstick maestros The Farrelly Brothers made a shocking claim that their 1994 hit Dumb and Dumber would not only be getting a sequel two decades after the fact but that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were both on board to reprise their roles as bumbling best friends.
After months of inactivity, however, Jim Carrey announced this week that he was pulling out of what was to be called Dumb and Dumber To because he became frustrated with New Line and parent studio Warner Bros.’ lack of enthusiasm towards the proposed continuation.
“I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer,” Carrey joked in a statement. “After all, it’s implied in the title.”
Internet pundits speculate that this may be a power play on Carrey’s part to pull in a bigger payday but the studio has yet to respond either way regarding the funnyman’s exit.
