With San Diego Comic-Con only days away, several studios have begun to discuss their upcoming plans. And with the tremendous success of this summer’s Avengers, few studios have as many eyes on them as Marvel and parent company Disney. So what do they have cooking? The answer may surprise you.
First off, is Guardians of the Galaxy, which was reported late last week as being Marvel’s next big film after Captain America 2.
Indeed, they nowhere near as well known as teams like the Avengers or X-Men, you would be forgiven if the name doesn’t ring a bell. But the Guardians do in fact have a long and illustrious history in the Marvel Universe dating back to 1969, though the more modern incarnation of the team – the one with a pugnacious space raccoon and a formidable talking tree – is rumored to be the one we will see on screen. With links to several Marvel characters, including the Avengers as well as their nasty cosmic nemesis revealed at the end of the recent film, it’s unlikely that you won’t be at least somewhat familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy by the time their film debuts in 2014.
In addition to the upcoming Guardians film, other sources including Entertainment Weekly are confirming that Marvel and Disney will announce an animated team-up flick revolving around the title Big Hero 6. Yet another somewhat obscure team, the Big Hero 6 are comprised entirely of Japanese heroes who have, at one time or another, teamed-up with or gone up against the likes of Spider-Man and the X-Men. Still in development, no date has been set for Big Hero 6 as of yet.
Expect plenty of more movie news as we get closer to Comic-Con!
