You don’t have to be a devoted Batman fan to be excited about Christopher Nolan’s final chapter of the Batman saga, Dark Knight Rises. After Nolan’s enormous success with the second Batman film, Dark Knight, and the 2010 action-thriller Inception, Dark Knight Rises has become one of the most widely anticipated movies of the summer. And it’s premiering this Friday, July 20th.
In Dark Knight Rises, Batman is in hiding after being accused of killing Harvey Dent. When a powerful terrorist named Bane appears, bent on destroying Gotham, Batman faces his biggest challenge yet: He has to stop Bane, while trying to clear his name. To get ready for what’s surely to be the blockbuster of the summer, let’s take a look at Nolan’s other work, now available on DIRECTV CINEMA™.
Batman Begins (2005)
So how did this whole Batman saga get started? We’ve seen various incarnations of the Batman story, but Nolan takes us back to the beginning to start it his way. Starring Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, you’ll see how Bruce learned his incredible fighting skills, scored the Batmobile, and established himself as the Dark Night, protector of Gotham city.
The Dark Knight (2008)
In Nolan’s second Batman film, our hero is confronted with the crafty and villainous Joker (played famously by Heath Ledger, who won a posthumous Oscar for the role). The Joker has no limits to what he’ll do. He robs banks, plants explosives, and uses Wayne’s loved ones to get what he wants.
Nolan took a break from the Batman movies to do Inception in 2010, a movie that would become one of the top-grossing films of all time. Starring Leonard DiCaprio, Inception follows a team skilled at entering people’s dreams. But can they implant original ideas in someone’s dreams?
