Movie News: Prometheus Rides Again

August 2, 2012

This summer’s most controversial film (for sci-fi fans, at least) is officially getting a sequel. Earlier this week, Fox announced plans for a second Prometheus movie.

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Fox confirmed that they are actively working on another trek through director Ridley Scott’s Alien universe, possibly with new writers.

Prometheus scribe, Damon Lindelof, is not out of the running to return, but he has several other high-profile projects on his plate before he can tackle the sequel. While Lindlehof’s script communicated a lot of Scott’s grand ideas in Prometheus, many fans pointed to the script’s many glaring plot holes as a distraction. Lindleof himself has said a sequel may benefit from new blood.

“If Ridley wants me to be involved in something, that would be hard to say no to.” Lindelof said. “At the same time, I do feel like the movie might benefit from a fresh voice or a fresh take or a fresh thought. Sometimes the baton should be passed…”

While Scott is reportedly very excited to get started, he is currently working on the lawyer thriller, The Counselor, and has said that a sequel to Blade Runner would follow. Both Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, who also stars in The Counselor, are contracted to return for the Prometheus sequel, which is currently eyeing a 2014 or 2015 release.
