The ultimate battle between Patty and Ellen is on! Each week, Josh Payne will give you an episode-by-episode breakdown of the developing conflict between the two women, but ultimately it’s up to you to decide who won each round. After watching last night’s episode, who do you think is ahead? Vote at the bottom of this post.
Patty continues with the head games. Ellen drops by Hewes & Associates to ask when Patty plans to depose McClaren and his associates. The trial begins in one week. Patty tells her it should only take one day, an unusually brief deposition for three people. Ellen’s unnerved by Patty’s confidence, but she doesn’t show it. Patty notes the splash Ellen’s been making in the news and advises her that success can be tricky because “it makes failure that much more…painful.”
With Scully back in town and Patty on the offensive, we were careful to keep Ellen active and aggressive so she wouldn’t feel outmatched. Ellen keeps up her pistol skills at the shooting range and asks her private investigator to hunt down Scully. By the end of the episode Ellen has two confrontations that put her in a position of strength going into the series finale. First, Ellen confronts her father Gary when he comes over and bullies her mother Denise. When Gary refuses to leave, Ellen pulls her gun on him. Later, when Scully is about to strangle Ellen, she again pulls her gun and corners Scully. With help from her private investigator Waleed Cooper, Ellen corners Scully and forces him to tell her who ordered him to kill her. Scully names Patty.
Back in Patty’s office at the end of the episode, their discussion in the Maine airport comes up again. Patty backhands an apology to Ellen, saying she could understand how Ellen might have assumed Patty ordered a hit on her and that she didn’t mean to be insensitive. Patty also says that she has a premonition this is the last time Ellen will set foot in Hewes & Associates. Ellen says, “Maybe. You never know.”
