HBO’s award-winning Boardwalk Empire is back for a third season. Season 1 saw Nucky, played by the inimitable Steve Buscemi, on a roll—making deals and getting rid of pesky individuals. In Season 2, he had a much bumpier ride, even in his Rolls Royce, as he moved towards snatching a slice of the illicit liquid gold business. There’s never enough for everyone.
Uncollected debts, owed favors, a new addition to the booze market, extreme measures, shootings galore, political schemes—it seems viewers have seen it all. Now that Jimmy (Michael Pitt) is out of the picture—as part of last season’s shocking ending—one can only wonder what will happen to Margaret, Nelson, Eli, Gyp, and the rest of the characters.
Season 3 will pick up 16 months later, in 1923. The world of bootlegging and alcohol is a darker, competitive, and violent place. The man with the red carnation is alive and more guarded than ever. How much more damage can these war partakers endure?
Season 3 of Boardwalk Empire premieres Sunday, September 16, at 9 p.m. on HBO.
