Thanksgiving Weekend: Family-Approved Shows and Movies

It’s that time of the year to get together with family and keep traditions alive. Whether you’re used to camping outside the mall for hours, fishing out the turkey’s wishbone, or fighting over that last piece of pie, nothing beats gathering around the living room for some good old family fun. Here’s our list of shows and movies to watch this weekend.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Celebrate 86 years of Thanksgiving tradition! Join more than 50 million kids and grown-ups to witness the display of gigantic novelty balloons, marching bands, and guest performers. Celebrity appearances include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Trace Adkins, Colbie Caillat, Flo Rida, Whoopi Goldberg, and Chris Isaak. Watch it LIVE from New York City November 22 at 12 p.m. on NBC.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, and the rest of the Peanuts gang. The timeless special, which originally aired in 1973, has been teaching audiences the true meaning of the holiday for generations. November 22 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Frosty the Snowman
In this animated adaptation of Romeo Muller’s story, a discarded top hat becomes a coveted item for a group of schoolchildren and a stage magician after it magically brings a snowman to life. Will Frosty find his way to the North Pole before spring arrives? November 23 at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Fred Claus
Nicholas Claus (Paul Giamatti) has a younger brother, Fred (Vince Vaughn), who is a huge troublemaker. After Fred manages to get in big trouble, Nicholas whisks him back to the North Pole so he can work in the toy factory and cover his debts. Unfortunately, Fred isn’t your average hard-working elf and Christmas operations might be compromised. November 23 at 8 p.m. on TBS.

Merida (Kelly Macdonald) is the impulsive daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Determined to carve out her own future, the young princess and skilled archer defies an ancient custom that determines who gets her hand in marriage. Moonrise Kingdom
In this comedy of young romance, two twelve-year olds fall in love and make a secret pact to escape together into the wilderness.
