Disney Courts Thor Director for New Cinderella

February 1, 2013

It’s been several weeks since Mark Romanek’s vision was deemed too dark for Disney’s upcoming live-action Cinderella, leaving the company scrambling for a replacement director.

Vulture.com has however learned that Thor director and sometimes actor Kenneth Branagh was in talks with Disney this week to direct the fairy tale film when production begins this fall.

Though no one has yet been cast, Cate Blanchett has expressed interest in the wicked stepmother role while names like Saoirse Ronan and Alicia Vikander have been thrown around for the title role.

Branagh is currently wrapping up production on Jack Ryan, based on the popular Tom Clancy character and starring Chris Pine, for an August 31st release.
