Movie News: Youngest Best Actress Nominee Ever to Star in Annie

February 25, 2013

Sony Pictures announced today that Quvenzhané Wallis, the 9-year old nominated for Best Actress at last night’s Academy Awards, will officially take on the role of the iconic orphan in their upcoming remake of the beloved musical Annie.

Convinced by her star-making turn in the powerful Beasts of the Southern Wild, producers Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Jay-Z decided the charismatic youngster was the best fit for the red wig after auditioning several other actresses.

Hannah Minghella, President of Columbia Pictures Production stated, “She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”

Annie will be directed by Will Gluck (Friends with Benefits) and is currently slated for a Holiday 2014 release.
