Vikings Premieres on History: Much More Than Horned Helmets

March 2, 2013

Travel back to the Dark Ages to discover the rich legend of the Nordic culture. Vikings, a 9-part series that premieres on History this weekend, tells the tale of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a Scandinavian warrior and farmer who sets off on a quest to conquer the uncharted west in search of knowledge, riches, and power. With the help of his squire and friend Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) he’ll craft the fastest, sleekest generation of longships and encounter some powerful opposition along the way, primarily from Earl Heraldson (Gabriel Byrne), the leader of the community.

Created by historical fiction mastermind Michael Hirst (Elizabeth, The Tudors), the series promises to give us a glimpse into this fascinating world and possibly reshape our preconceptions of the mysterious Nordic explorers.

Watch the premiere of Vikings, Sunday, March 3 at 10 p.m. on History, Ch. 269.
