We’re taking this interview to the Beast Mode level as we continue our conversation with Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers, including some behind the scenes looks as well as great candid shots of Mr. Kemp on the set of the 2013 DIRECTV MLB EXTRA INNINGS photo shoot.
Matt, who was your favorite player growing up?
Growing up, for me Frank Thomas was my favorite player. Frank was a bigger guy and growing up I was a chubby kid. All my friends would call me the Little Big Hurt.
What pitcher from the past you think would be a tough matchup to go up against? And what makes a pitcher intimidating?
There are a ton of tough pitchers to choose from back in the day. Nolan Ryan would be one of the tougher ones. I’m not scared of any pitcher, so no pitchers intimidate me…you guys around make me go and sound soft now!
How does it feel to be working with DIRECTV on the MLB EXTRA INNINGS campaign?
It feels great, the package does a great job giving customers access to all the games and capturing the great moments throughout the season.
Do your friends and family back home in Oklahoma follow you with MLB EXTRA INNINGS?
Actually my entire family follows me with MLB EXTRA INNIGNS. They watch every day and have a great time watching me play. Playing in Los Angeles, they definitely stay up late watching me play. I know that my grandma is always telling me that she fell asleep towards the end of the game but catches the highlights the next morning.
What’s your favorite TV show right now?
There’s a show on the USA Network called Suits. I love watching it because it’s about a bunch of lawyers and it’s highly entertaining each week. I highly recommend everyone to check it out. Another show that I like is by Kevin Hart, a good friend of mine, called Real Husbands of Hollywood. It’s a fake reality show but they make it seem like a real reality show. It’s a really funny and great show.
Any secret talents that fans do not know about you?
I don’t have any secret talents. I’m just me!
