DIRECTV Statement in Response to ICA Broadcasting’s Removal of its CBS 7 Station from DIRECTV Homes in Odessa, Texas

ICA Takes Away CBS Station as Contract Expires at Midnight

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., July 31, 2013 – It’s frankly indefensible that ICA, which owns CBS 7 in Odessa and is licensed to serve the public interest, would willingly deny tens of thousands of its viewers their news, weather and entertainment programming in order to bargain for what they know full well is an excessive and unjustifiable price to carry their station. Manipulative tactics like these are wrong and betray the trust that viewers place in their local TV stations and seriously damage that important relationship. We will do all we can to ensure ICA reverses its decision to blackout its station and returns service to our customers who certainly don’t deserve to get caught in the middle of any contract dispute. In the meantime, customers can go to CBS.com to watch many of their favorite CBS shows like “Big Brother” or “Under the Dome.”
