Chozen‘s Bobby Moynihan Has Old-School Cred… Just Not With Jay-Z

February 3, 2014

Bobby Moynihan has been a mainstay on Saturday Night Live since 2008, but his latest project, Chozen, brings us his most outrageous role ever.  On the FX animated series, Bobby plays the eponymous Chozen, a hapless white rapper trying to rebuild his life after a lengthy prison stay.

What sort of research did you do in order to bring Chozen to life? With all of the hip-hop artists you’ve worked with on SNL, we’d think you’ve already earned some cred.

The second I saw the art that Floyd County [Productions] had done of Chozen, I knew who he was. As far as earning cred from artists I met at SNL? Not much. When I met Jay-Z, I was in full-body leotard and dancing with his wife. So… no cred gained.

Can you freestyle at all, or would a rap battle with you just devolve into some awkward silence?

I can fake it for four seconds. Anything after that is going to be nonsense.

We’re assuming that fans must stop you in the street from time to time and ask you to do a line as Drunk Uncle. Has anybody asked you for some Chozen yet?

Not yet! But when they do I will be ready.

East Coast or West Coast rap? You have to pick a side, it’s a rule.

East Coast. Biggie till the day I die.

Chozen loves GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but what’s your favorite Channing Tatum movie? We seriously want to know!

G.I. Joe: Retaliation!!!!! Or Side Effects.

Chozen airs Mondays at 10:30/9:30c on FX (Channel 248)
