Tell us about Jim Shockey’s Uncharted. What inspired you to undertake this adventure?

The world is a huge and magnificent place, full of secrets, full of unexplored mountains, valleys and jungles…and the explorer in me wants to discover as many of those secrets as possible. Plus I was born a peregrinator…to feel balanced in this one life we get to live, I feel the need to move, discover, travel and ultimately, hopefully (if I’m a good student) learn!

In the first episode, you say that “The only way to find truth is to travel.” What does that mean exactly?

Wasn’t it Mark Twain who said something to the effect of, “Travel is the worst enemy of prejudice?” My apologies to Mark if I mis-paraphrased! But the gist is that travelling opens your eyes in a figurative sense, it opens your mind, your horizons, and if you are willing to accept that there are “other” ways in this world, you grow more tolerant and with tolerance (and age) hopefully comes wisdom…and in wisdom there is truth.

You travel to some amazing places this season. I know it must be like picking a favorite child, but what was your best destination?

Tough question…Fire Dancers in Papua New Guinea? Or the beautiful soul touching Inuit Throat Singers in Canada’s High Arctic? Or maybe it was the ancient drama on the salmon streams of British Columbia, Black bears padding the banks of the stream, salmon spawning, dying, eagles gliding through ethereal mists in the grey dawn of a perfect day…or was it the cacophony, the Kaleidoscope chaos of Pakistan, the colours, the danger the stares and feeling of being so very far from home? Or was it the high mountain reaches in the Valley Where Storms are Born in Kyrgyzstan? Really there is not a single “best” place, only perfect places all.

When you wrapped shooting for the season, how happy were you to sleep in your own bed?

That question is easy. YES!
