Day 1 Report: March Madness Living up to its Name

March 20, 2015

The NCAA Tournament started off with a bang!

In just the first few hours, we saw two small-time 14 seeds take down Big XII giants. University of Alabama Birmingham handed Final Four hopeful Iowa State a huge loss. Meanwhile, Georgia State was playing at the top of their game as they took down another hopeful in Baylor. Both games were a stunning display of what makes the tournament so special—close competition throughout with a decision coming at the buzzer. It’s the first time since 1995 2 14-seeded teams advance to the Round of 32.

And those weren’t the only close games. Five of Thursday’s 16 games were decided by a single point, the most in NCAA tournament history for one day.

However, the games weren’t all nail biters. The big programs like Kentucky, Arizona, and Villanova won their games by big margins as they try to position themselves for a long tournament run.

Day 2 is sure to keep up the excitement. #1 seeds Wisconsin and Duke start their tournament campaigns and so do Virginia, Kansas, and Gonzaga. Will there be more upsets? The only way to find out is by tuning in to day 2. Stream NCAA games on your tablet, phone, or computer with DIRECTV.
