First Weekend of the Big Dance Filled With Big Excitement and Upsets

March 24, 2015

The Sweet 16 teams are set, and we are minus a few Final Four favorites, and a No. 1 seed.

The biggest upset of the weekend occurred in the East bracket, where the No. 8 seeded NC State Wolfpack shocked the world with a big-time victory over the No.1 seed Villanova Wildcats, 71-68. Just two days after their best shooting performance of the season, the Wildcats turn in one of their worst. The Wolfpack took advantage, and the rest is history.

Also in the East, the No. 2 seed Virginia Cavaliers fell victim to the mastery of Tom Izzo and his No. 7 seed Michigan State Spartans, 54-60. This incredible win adds another upset to an amazing tournament, and brings Tom Izzo’s record in the round of 32 to a staggering 13-1.

Meanwhile, in the Midwest bracket, the No. 2 seed Kansas Jayhawks fell to in-state rival No. 7 seed Wichita State, 65-78. This is the second year in a row the Witchita State Shockers have lived up to their name and shocked the nation with a win to move on to the Sweet 16.

As for the rest of the tournament, many of the other No. 1 seed teams were able to march on. So if you’re pulling for Kentucky, Wisconsin, or Duke to make it to the Elite 8, you may still have a chance!
