If life is the pursuit of happiness, what exactly are you perusing?
So begs the question of Showtime’s newest series, Happyish. The comedy stars Steve Coogan (Philomenia) as Thom Payne, a 44 year-old man, who suddenly finds himself thrust into a world of millennials, and a job that has him creating a churn of “viral content.” Needless to say, he’s not thrilled and begins thinking of the bigger picture of enjoying life. When exploring his unhappiness, one friend suggests that perhaps he just has a “low joy ceiling.”
The cast of actors exploring the banal is impressive. British actor/comedian Coogan tackles the lead role— originally intended for the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Kathryn Hahn (Parks and Recreation) plays his wife Lee, with supporting roles picked up by Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) and Ellen Barkin (Sea of Love).
Happyish premieres on April 26 at 9/8c on Showtime (Ch. 545).
