You could say every Housewife is an individual, but perhaps none more so than Sonja Morgan. Now in her fifth season on The Real Housewives of New York City, Sonja has performed her own signature “caburlesque,” lost a tooth on camera, attempted to launch a toaster oven cookbook and corresponding line of appliances, coped with a messy divorce and lawsuit, employed a legion of “interns,” rebounded with a few much younger men, and hosted a dog funeral. Through it all, she has brought her signature charm and wit to the process. As Season 7 continues full swing, we talked to “Lady Morgan” about the show’s shifting alliances and what her guilty pleasures are.
A season of The Real Housewives of New York is always full of drama. What can we expect for the rest of the season?
Well, you’re going to see some friend-flipping. Flip-flopping, I say. You remember, once Bethenny called Luann a snake, now they’re two cubs in a den. You know that Ramona and Luann were total frenemies and that I was always between the two of them-now they’re like bosom buddies and talking about me behind my back. I actually think every Housewife is talking about me behind my back.
Which Real Housewife from another city would you most like to have lunch with?
I love seeing all the L.A. girls, and my girl Lea Black from The Real Housewives of Miami.
Throwback time, Real Housewives has more twists and turns than an episode of Dynasty. Were you Team Crystal or Team Alexis?
Oh my gosh. We do actually channel that show. We are very similar. You think it’s about the money? Or the glamour? The cars? The men?
When you have time, what do you enjoy most watching on TV?
I love that Game of Thrones. I call it “Game of Thorns”—I never get the name right. But I just don’t want my daughter watching it. I don’t want her watching my show, to be honest. But all that sex and violence on Game of Thrones keeps me alert.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure in life?
I think my bubble bath—the salts and the oils. People meditate, but I’ve never quite been able to do that. The bathtub is my meditation, and that’s where I get myself together so when I see the girls, I know what to do. I have to be centered.
