Time is a flat circle, but thankfully television shows are not. When HBO’s juggernaut True Detective ended last season, the speculation around the new season was almost immediate. Who would replace Rust Cohl (Matthew McConaughey) and Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) in our hearts as the next noir detectives to fulfill our sweeping prestige dreams?
And the dreamers at HBO delivered not two but four options, with Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch all stepping into the lead roles. Details have been scant. With burning gifs and moody trailers giving fans only the faintest glimmers of plot, but they do offer lots of longing looks at Colin Farrell’s amazing mustache and bolo tie.
“We get the world we deserve,” touts the tagline of the season. Looks like fans will get the show they deserve, too. (And maybe even better!)
Don’t miss the Season 2 premiere of True Detective, June 21 at 9/8c on HBO (Ch. 501). And catch up on Season 1 on demand now.
