1. Blunt Talk

If there’s a star more lovable than Patrick Stewart, he’s hard to find. But while he’s known for his more dramatic work on Star Trek and on stage performing Shakespeare, here the icon the isn’t quite serious. As a British cable newsman ready to make it in America, he’s in capable comedic hands — the series is created by Jonathan Ames, known for HBO’s Bored to Death, and produced by Seth McFarlane (Family Guy, Ted).

2. Show me a Hero

HBO’s latest miniseries ticks all the boxes for blockbuster acclaim: return of celebrated creator of The Wire David Simon, tour de force performance by up-and-coming actor (and Star Wars star) Oscar Issac, host of impressive turns by other accomplished actors (Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina, Winona Ryder, and Jim Belushi), directed by Paul Haggis (Crash), and rife non-fiction source material about a young mayor trying to solve racial housing issues. 3. Maps to the Stars

This spooky indie didn’t get nearly enough attention (besides its lauding at Cannes). Julianne Moore stars as a semi-washed up actress with a dark past, who ends up hiring an assistant with … a dark past. Mia Wasikowska haunts as Agatha, with John Cusack and Robert Pattinson shining in supporting roles.

4. Survivor’s Remorse

From Executive Producer LeBron James, Cam and his fam return for Season 2, chronicling the story of one man’s struggle with supporting everyone now that he’s gone pro. Can the Calloways continue to make it all work, without working Cam into the ground? Watch and see.

5. Starring Adam West

In a summer full of superheroes, see what actually happened to one of your favorites. This doc shines a light on the most-beloved Batman’s typecasting woes post the show, and how he overcame the odds to make it in Hollywood, however many years down the line.

6. Big Finales

It’s officially time to catch up on this summer’s biggest shows. True DetectivePower, Ballers and The Brink will all bow this month, so if you want to remain spoiler-free, you best catch up now.
