As Luke Collins in Heroes Reborn, debuting Thursday Sept. 24 at 8/7c on NBC, Zachary Levi has the unique opportunity of stepping into a franchise with a built-in following, while at the same time being able to create something entirely new. A fan favorite himself for his role as NBC’s Chuck, Levi gave us a glimpse into the new series, as well as some personal insights such as his ideal superpower.
How does it feel to come aboard a show with such a deep mythology? Did you watch the original series?
It feels really cool. I was a fan of the original show, though I only really got to watch the first season or so as I was working every day on Chuck, and was always jealous that those guys got to fly and read people’s minds and stuff.
What can fans expect this season and how will Heroes Reborn be different from the original series?
I think they can expect an action-packed drama with a lot of mystery, intrigue, and raw emotion. Hopefully returning viewers will find it to be close to what they loved about the original in tone and feel, and new viewers will find something that stands apart from the rest of what’s out there and really enjoy the ride.
It seems like superhero films and shows are more popular than ever before, why do you think tat is?
I think people are finally discovering how fun and entertaining the whole sci-fi/fantasy/genre world is. And that’s great news. It creates better entertainment, while simultaneously breaking down some social barriers that once existed between those who liked video games & comic books, and those who didn’t.
Who are your favorite superheroes of all time? If you could have any power, what would it be?
I honestly don’t know where to even begin naming my favorite superheroes, as there are far too many to count. But if I had to pick one power, it would be teleportation. I think it would come in handier than anything else. Just think of all the vacation possibilities.
Don’t miss the series premiere of Heroes Reborn, Thursday Sept. 24 at 8/7c on NBC.
