The Leftovers Returns for Its Second Season on HBO

October 15, 2015

Last season’s hit HBO series, The Leftovers, explored the world of Tom Perrotta’s best-selling novel of the same name. When its second season debuted on October 4 for ten episodes, the show headed into uncharted territory to expand upon the world of the novel, and it’s free to view this weekend during our Free HBO Preview.

Created by Perrotta (Oscar nominee for Little Children) and Damon Lindelof (Emmy® winner for Lost), the world of The Leftovers is one in which 2% of the population—140 million people—inexplicably disappeared from every location on Earth, except for the small town of Mapleton, Texas. Here we meet the Garveys and Murphys, two families with very different experiences—the Garveys, recent transplants to Mapleton whose lives were altered by “The Departure”, and the Murphys, locals who were left untouched by the worldwide event. Season Two fines the town looking for new beginnings after last season’s Memorial Day initiative by the “Guilty Remnant” went awry.

Justin Theroux leads an all-star cast including Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Margaret Qualley, Chris Zylka, Regina King, Kevin Carroll, Jovan Adepo and Janel Moloney.

Check out the Season Two trailer below for a glimpse of what’s in store on The Leftovers.

Don’t miss Season Two of The Leftovers, Sundays at 9/8c on HBO, free this weekend during our Free HBO Preview.
