Flesh and Bone Goes Inside the High-Stakes World of Ballet

November 2, 2015

The latest original series from STARZ®, Flesh and Bone takes a realistic look into the not-always-glamorous world of professional ballet.

Flesh and Bone tells the story of Claire (Sara Hay, Black Swan), a young ballet dancer working her way up in a prestigious New York ballet company. Claire has a challenging past, struggling with self-destructive behavior both at odds with, and fueling, her ambition to succeed.

To give the series the realistic feel they believed it demanded, the show’s creators, including Emmy award-winning “Breaking Bad” Writer and Executive Producer, Moira Walley-Beckett, decided to cast professional dancers who could act, instead of hiring actors who would be made to appear to dance. The resulting cast features a lineup of world-renowned dancers, led by Hay and including former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Irina Dvorovenko and current soloist Sascha Radetsky. In addition, Royal New Zealand Ballet artistic director and former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Ethan Stiefel was brought on to serve as choreographer.

The series promises athletic and beautiful dancing, as well as gritty drama, as we see in the trailer below.

Don’t miss the full series of Flesh and Bone on STARZ®, when it premieres in its entirety on DIRECTV Everywhere, Sunday November 8.
