Sean Bean Takes Us Behind the Scenes of The Snow Queen: Magic of the Ice Mirror

November 17, 2015

In the animated film, The Snow Queen: Magic of the Ice Mirror, Sean Bean voices the role of Arrog, whom he describes as “a kind of warrior/strong man, and military figure who wants prove himself to his people and everyone around him.”

Bean is known for playing “warriors” in live-action fantasy films such as Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, but as points out in our video interview below, they were human characters, whereas Arrog is a huge troll.

He found voicing an animated film to be freeing, allowing he and his fellow actors to improvise and explore character in ways that “ADR” (automated dialogue replacement) for a live-action film doesn’t allow when matching your voice to a previously captured onscreen performance. In his words, “you can really go to town on it” and find the idiosyncrasies that make characters interesting.
