The Golden Globe® Awards have become one of the most anticipated events of the entertainment year, kicking off the awards season and providing an early read on some of the year’s big stories in television and film. This year is no exception, and our friends at E! are back to provide everything you need to get ready for the proceedings leading up to, including, and following the awards.
The teams from Live From the Red Carpet and Fashion Police—Ryan Seacrest, Giuliana Rancic, Melissa Rivers, and Brad Goreski—joined us to share some of their picks and thoughts as we approach the big night. Catch all of the coverage this Sunday January 10, which kicks off at 4/3c on E! with Countdown to the Red Carpet: The 2016 Golden Globe Awards, don’t miss the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards at 8/7c on NBC, and then be sure to join in for the full fashion recap on Fashion Police, Monday, January 11 at 8/7c.
What is your favorite Golden Globes® moment?
Ryan Seacrest: The Globes are always fun because everyone is in a good mood—it’s a party as well as an awards show. People are playful on the Red Carpet. Last year, Jennifer Aniston gave Kate Hudson a playful squeeze on the tush, and the year before that Jennifer Lawrence photo bombed Taylor Swift, which was surprising and fun. You can’t create moments like that—they just happen.
Giuliana Rancic: From juggling with the A-listers (my secret talent!), to singing acapella on live TV (another secret talent!), to celebrities dropping major jaw-dropping confessions, the Golden Globes is one of my favorite red carpets. There are so many great moments to choose from, but if I have to pick a recent one, I would have to say that taking shots of Randy Gerber’s tequila (that he owns with George Clooney) with Randy himself, along with his wife Cindy Crawford, was certainly a memorable moment!
To what are you most looking forward at the Golden Globes this year?
Ryan Seacrest: The unpredictability. There are so many stars and everyone can get silly given the festive atmosphere, which makes for great TV. Also, for the awards show itself this year, there are so many incredible contenders. I think it’s going to be close, so no one really has any sense who’s going to win. This year, anyone can take it.
Giuliana Rancic: The energy at the Golden Globes is incredible. Everyone is in a great mood because they are passing out champagne on the red carpet and it’s just a lot of fun. It certainly loosens everybody up. E! has unprecedented camera coverage on the red carpet, capturing all of the best fashion shots and of course, all of the spontaneous moments live on the air. Celebrities know that people are watching in over 100 countries all over the world so they love to give Ryan and I super fun and memorable interviews. And I also love that there are both TV and movie stars at the Globes. It’s absolutely the best of both worlds.
Why do you love covering the Golden Globes?
Melissa Rivers: I love the Golden Globes because they are the most fun—TV stars, movie stars, everyone. There is a community atmosphere and everybody just wants to laugh and have a great time together.
Brad Goreski: I love covering the Golden Globes because it is the kickoff of the red carpet season and we get to see what are going to be the big trends for the year
Which nominee do you think will be best dressed?
Melissa Rivers: Of course, I can’t wait to see Jennifer Lawrence.
Brad Goreski: Cate Blanchett.
