SHOWTIME®’s Dark Net Docuseries Explores the Dark Side of Technology

January 20, 2016

There’s no doubt that technology has enhanced our lives, connecting us in ways we never thought possible and developing at an unprecedented pace over the last few decades. But along with the many benefits have come more ominous ramifications, as an entire subculture has sprung up at the far reaches of the Internet, beyond the reach of search engines.

Originally intended as a private space for the intelligence community to operate outside the public’s view, the so-called “Deep Web” now occupies 80 percent of the Internet, making space for often less-than-savory dealings to flourish. Dark Net explores this technological underworld, taking a look at themes such as bio-hacking, cyber-kidnapping, digital warfare, online cults, pornography addiction, the webcam sex trade, and more.

The eight-part series was developed and produced by Vocativ, a tech/media company that specializes in searching and monitoring the Deep Web.
