What’s the best part about hosting The Late Late Show?
Oh man, where to start? I feel incredibly lucky to have a job where I work with some of the best people in the business. I come to work everyday, and it doesn’t matter what mood you are in, you are not ending the day without a few huge belly laughs, and [it] usually happens before we even shoot the show! That’s what it is all about, the fun we have shooting the show.
You’ve already had so many great guests since kicking off the show last year. Who is your dream guest?
Well, it’s the same people that every other show would want on. Would love to have Bruno Mars on and do a carpool with him. Helen Mirren would be great. It’s everyone! I want Tom Cruise on the show. To me, Tom Cruise is a dream talk show guest.
Your YouTube videos are so much fun—do you have as much fun filming them as we have watching them?
Yes and maybe even more so. That sort of thing, like being in a car with Stevie Wonder for two hours, is one of those moments where you think to yourself, “If this was an auction prize, it would go for millions.” If someone said to me, “You are going to drive around for two hours with Stevie Wonder and he would call your wife and sing, ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’”… I would pay everything I have to do that! And I got paid to do it. It’s just an unbelievable job to have and I am so lucky to have it.
When you have the time, what TV shows do you enjoy watching?
You are living in the US now; what do you most miss about England?
Outside of friends and family I would have to say architecture! America is a young county and LA is not overly blessed with architecture. If you ever go to London, which you should, you will always be rewarded with amazing architecture; you will always be rewarded if you just look up!
