Canelo vs. Khan: Unparalleled Power vs. Unsurpassed Speed

May 2, 2016

With Floyd Mayweather retired and Manny Pacquiao headed in the same direction, a void has opened up in the world of boxing. There are still many great fighters, but the question remains: who will be crowned the new “King of the Ring?”

For now, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez from Guadalajara, Mexico, is the Middleweight World Champion and the potential heir apparent. Well known for his strength and power, the 26-year-old fighter has put up impressive numbers thus far. His current record is 46 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss.

However, to be the best, you must beat the best. Enter the challenger: Amir “King” Khan. Khan is a 30-year-old British-born fighter who possesses dizzying hand speed, and has amassed a pretty impressive record himself. He currently stands at 31 wins, 3 losses, and 0 draws. Khan also has the WBC Silver Welterweight title and is actually moving up a weight class to challenge Canelo for the WBC Middleweight title.

On Cinco de Mayo weekend, the world will find out if hard-hitting Canelo is too much for Khan to handle, or if Khan’s speed will leave Canelo dazed and confused. It will be Canelo’s first title defense, and regardless of who wins, it’s sure to be a thriller.
