Twenty years ago, Vernon Brownmule aka “Burnin’ Vernon,” was country music’s man of the hour. He had a hit song, screaming fans, and all the trappings of success. Unfortunately, wild partying and poor decision-making put an abrupt end to Brown’s fifteen minutes of fame.
In CMT’s new comedy Still The King, Brownmule, played by Billy Ray Cyrus, is trying to pick up the pieces of his life. His once promising music career has been reduced to irregular gigs as an Elvis impersonator, he’s been ordered to do community service after crashing a bread truck into a church sign, all while trying to make up for lost time with the 15-year-old daughter he just met.
Cyrus and the rest of Still The King‘s cast are poised to bring the laughs, and there will also be plenty of equally talented and funny guest stars—Erik Estrada and Wayne Newton are recurring characters who aren’t too fond of Vernon, and Darius Rucker plays a well-known religious figure.
