I Love Kellie Pickler Is Back!

August 25, 2016

The bubbly blond we all love is back for a new season with her husband Kyle, and we can’t wait! Hot on the heels of a successful first season, country music artist and television star Kellie Pickler is back on CMT with a brand new season of shenanigans. The new season is chock-full of adventures, laughs and romance, and we had the chance to sit down with Kellie to get a sneak peek of what viewers can expect. Make sure to watch the season premiere of I Love Kellie Pickler tonight at 10/9c on CMT (Ch. 327).

The new season is just a few days away! What are you most excited for viewers to see this season?

You know, we have such great people in our lives. My husband and I, we have a ball! We have a good time anywhere we go. We just want to make people laugh and make them smile. Whether they’re laughing at us or with us, as long as we’re bringing them some joy then that’s always a good thing.

Based on the trailer, it looks like you’re getting back into your roller skates at Sonic! How was that experience?

Oh my gosh. Well, I didn’t break my legs or my arms. I survived! It was crazy, and it’s changed so much. I hadn’t worked there since I was gosh, 19! It’s been over 10 years—I’ve had those skates parked for over a decade. I was a little rusty, but we managed. The menu has changed—it was just so different, especially with the technology they have now. But we had so much fun hanging out with all the employees and the manager there that showed us around. She showed me the ropes!

Let’s talk a little about music-do you remember what the first album you ever bought was?

My first album was a George Strait cassette! I’m a huge Strait fan. I think I was 8 years old when I got my first little boombox. I had one cassette, and that was my little George Strait.

If you could collaborate with any musician, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Well I just ran into her about 10 minutes ago! Miss Dolly Parton. She is one of the biggest reasons why I fell in love with country music. My Granny raised me, so I grew up on very traditional country music. She is like I said, one of the biggest reasons why I fell in love with the format. Just music in general. She’s so … She’s just country music royalty, and she’s the best! She’s just so wonderful. She’s one of those people that when she walks in the room, she’s just this bright light. She’s this tiny little thang, just like a little Barbie doll—but she has this big presence. She has this energy that just makes you want to be close to her.

If someone unfamiliar with country music was beginning to explore the genre, what artists would you recommend they listen to?

Obviously we have so many great artists now, but if they wanted to go back into the history of country music, I grew up on Al Dexter’s “Pistol Packing Mama,” Kitty Wells, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, of course, Patsy Cline and Dolly. Then there’s Meryl, Waylon, George, Hank. All of them!

Every format evolves and changes over the years. Gospel music sounds a lot different than it did back in the day. Rap music’s changed so much. R&B, all of it! Every format. Pop, rock. The rock records today are not the same as they were when they were first made. Neither is country, and that’s all right. There’s room for everybody!

This season you travel to Japan. Had you ever been there before? What cities/countries are on your travel bucket list?

I’d never been before… and honestly I’d want to visit all of them. All of them! I have always wanted to live out of a suitcase and see the world. I’ve never been the type to have roots anywhere. I can’t be in one place too long. I just feel like raveling just opens your mind. I’ve always been a culture junkie. I’ve always wanted to … I don’t know, experience every walk of life. I think that just helps you grow and have grace, compassion, understanding and knowledge.

Where did you go exactly in Japan? Were you sort of just traveling around?

We did. We were based right in Tokyo. We took the subway. I don’t speak Japanese clearly, so obviously I can’t read Japanese. It’s a hilarious episode! Definitely a “fish out of water” episode, but we had so much fun. We did get to take the trains out of the city and sight see. Just be tourists. It was just so wonderful. The people were so kind and eager to help us. They could tell I was lost—we have to go back!

You and Kyle have a really wonderful relationship and renewed your vows last season. What advice would you give to newlyweds?

Well I still feel like we’re newlyweds! But, I think you need to marry your best friend. You have to remember that you’re on the same team and be kind. He’s my life partner and my sanctuary. I think being kind and being respectful is so important. And to never forget that you’re both on the same team!
